WHY RASA RIA?
This incredible coastal-jungle venue is set between 64 acres of ancient rainforest and the South China Sea on the island of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo - where Aidan’s parents were born and raised, and generations of the Kwans have lived.
Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Reserve is a destination itself, with monkeys, otters, the slow loris, monitor lizards, rare birds and the endangered pangolin all possible to encounter on the grounds.

THINGS TO DO
-
Fly to Sepilok for cheap or opt for a 6-8hr night coach to see the Orangutan rehab centre - if you want to see them in the wild pick the KINABATANGAN RIVER TOUR where we personally saw wild pygmy elephants.
Multi-day tours can be expensive but we have the number of a driver who can do a reasonable combo 2D1N package
-
Semporna on the tip of borneo is known for paradise Islandswith world-class snorkling, brimming sea life + pristine avatar formations BUT the town has a serious littering problem so tourists stay on island resorts or overwater villas/chalets.
Snorkling tours are unmissable to Bohey, Mabel and ESPECIALLY : Sipadan.
Please do your research to enjoy one of asia’s best destinations and DO NOT STAY in the town. We can recommend cheaper options on islands/overwater -
Borneo, like nearby Indonesia, has suffered with serious litter issues in the sea - if you want to experience more untouched islands without travelling far please pick MENGALUM ISLAND rather than the other options. You can book this at the Jetty for cheaper.
The corals are not the healthiest so we would skip snorkleing here and save that for Sipadan in Semporna - instead take in the stunning white sand beaches and turquoise waters which are so close to KK

NOTE: We will stay at Rasa Ria only the night before + evening after the wedding and will sleep elsewhere in the days leading up to it. We encourage you to explore Borneo, KL or elsewhere on mainland Malaysia to fully enjoy Shangri La’s Rasa Ria - a remote nature hotel - for our celebrations and to make the most of your travels
For those flying via KL:
